This sculpture is named Frustration. I choose the name because it is a sculpture of a part of a car that I had lots of trouble replacing. I actually ended up just having to cut the piece off and buy a new one to replace it. My inspiration for this piece was from a company called Megan Racing. They make camber arms (the part that i modeled) for mostly race cars, but the parts are usable on all cars. The main element I used in this sculpture was texture. I took the smooth part of the cardboard off to reveal the "fins" underneath. I did this because on camber arms, they usually do have fins to help dissipate heat faster. I made the sculpture by laminating 3 layers of cardboard together to make a clean, 3D shape. The small cutouts near the middle of the piece were extremely hard to get right because the cardboard was so thin. I probably ripped 2 or 3 of them before I finally got one right. Originally, I was going to make a wheel of a car. Once I got about 1/2 through making the wheel, I realized it wasn't fully circular and was frustrated. From that point, I thought of other things that had frustrated me about cars and immediately thought of this, hence the name. If I had more time I would've spent more time making the back look as good as the front. It was originally supposed to be an in the round sculpture, but I ran out of time to perfect the back, so now it's a relief sculpture.
